1300 Squadron ATC: Exam Results

First Class Cadet Exam

On Monday 14^th April 2008, another Second Class Cadet Adam Taylor (15) passed his First Class Cadet exam.

The exam was given in 2 parts covering topics such as First Aid, Initial Expedition Training, Map Reading, Communications, the Air Training Corps, the Royal Air Force, History of Flight and Airmanship.

He now joins the rest of the cadets and can study for his Leading Cadet exam due in November.

Level 2 BTEC in Aviation Studies

The Staff and Cadets of 1300 (Sutton-in-Ashfield) Squadron would like to congratulate Cadet Aron Marshall on being presented with the BTEC Intermediate Certificate.

Level 2 BTEC in Aviation Studies is given to cadets who have passed ALL written exams; from First Class to Staff Part 1; and is equivalent to 4 GCSE’s.

First Class Cadet

On Wednesday 9^th April 2008, Second Class Cadet Tom Wells (15) passed his First Class Cadet exam.

Cadet Tom Wells passed with 97% and 71% of the marks.

Staff Part 2 Exam

On Wednesday 19^th March 2008, Corporal Daniel Barnes took his Staff Part 2 exam.

This entailed giving a 10 minute presentation on ‘how to iron a shirt’ - he should now be the best dressed cadet on the squadron!

After giving the presentation and having an interview with a Wing Staff Officer, Squadron Leader Gareth Davies, Corporal Barnes passed his Staff Part 2 exam.

He has now joined the elite of the Staff Cadets and can now proudly wear a yellow lanyard on his left shoulder.

Staff Part 2 Exam

On Wednesday 20^th February 2008, Flight Sergeant Luke Gamble took his Staff Part 2 exam.

This entailed giving a 10 minute presentation and having an interview taken by a Wing Staff Officer, Squadron Leader Gareth Davies.

Thankfully, Flight Sergeant Gamble passed with ‘Flying Colours’.

He has now joined the elite of the Staff Cadets and can now proudly wear a yellow lanyard on his left shoulder.

- Marshall, Aron - Pass (also took the Airframes exam, not studied for)
- Parker, Sharon - Partial Pass but got 24 out of 25 on Propulsion
- Shaw, Antony - Pass (also took the Airframes exam, not studied for)

- Thomas, Martin - Partial Pass but got 24 out of 25 on Propulsion

Mr. Barnes and Mr. Stones will now be studying to take the Staff Part II, which is giving a 10-minute lesson and an Interview taken by a Wing Staff Officer. Once passed, they will be able to join the elite who wear a Yellow Lanyard on their left shoulder.

On Wednesday evening 3 probationers took their First Class Cadet examinations and all 3 passed and are now fully fledged Cadets.

Scott Walters aged 15 gained a Credit;

Chloe Sharpe aged 14 gained a Distinction;

Matthew Parry aged 13 also gained a Distinction.

All 3 Cadets can now join in with the rest of the Squadron. More doors and activities are now open to them.

They are now 1 step closer to obtaining the BTEC in Aviation Studies (equivalent to 4 GCSE's) so Top marks to all 3! Congratulations! Keep up the good work!

Staff Cadets

On Wednesday 7^th March 2007 – Squadron Parade Night – two cadets were preparing to complete their Staff Cadet Part 2 examination.

It involved being interviewed by a member of the Wing Staff, in this instance Squadron Leader Gareth Davies, and they were to give a 10 minute presentation – on any subject – to the Sqn Ldr.

Flight Sergeant Matthew Turner (16) was up first and his presentation was about ‘cleaning parade shoes’ correctly.

Next was Corporal Christopher Jones (16) and he gave his presentation on ‘ironing a shirt’ correctly.

Both good skills all cadets need to know.

Sqn Ldr Davies reported a word perfect presentation and interview for both candidates.

1300 Squadron now has two Staff Cadets who can now proudly wear their “yellow lanyard” – with pride – on their left shoulder. Congratulations!

First Class Cadet Exam

Monday 22^nd January 2007 saw the first Probationer of 2007 passing their First Class Cadet Exam.

Congratulations to Stephen Bishop who passed with a Credit.

November 2006 Exam Results

Monday 8^th January 2007 is the first night back in 2007 and the Squadron has received the November 2006 Exam Results, details as follows:-

Leading Cadet Exam

Matthew Bonser gained a Pass and will now go on to the Senior Cadet Exam in either March or May 2007.

The remaining cadets who took this exam have a Partial Pass and will retake any in March 2007

Senior Cadet Exam

These cadets only took 1 paper - Propulsion – and all have passed this exam and will take Airframes in March 2007

Staff Cadet Part 1

Cpl Christopher Jones passed with a Credit

Flt Sgt Matthew Turner gained a Pass

Both will now take their Staff Part 2 exam later in the year with a member of Wing Staff to invigilate.

Sgt Michael Tucker gained a Partial Pass in Air Navigation and will retake Pilot Navigation in March 2007

The remaining cadets for Staff Part 1 will retake in March 2007
